Reiki

Reiki is an ancient form of healing rediscovered by the Buddhist Dr Mikao Usui in the late 1800’s. Reiki is a safe, gentle and non-intrusive hands on healing technique that uses universal life force energy. The knowledge that our bodies are filled with life force energy, chi or prana, has been part of the wisdom of many cultures for hundreds of years and the free flowing of this energy is believed to form the basis of well being. Once attuned to Reiki, the practitioner acts as a channel for this life force and by placing their hands in various positions over the body it flows freely into the client.

Reiki energy goes to wherever it is most needed, healing the source of the issue first after which the symptoms may gradually disappear. Reiki activates a natural healing process, cleansing the energy system, releasing long held emotions and restoring balance of mind, body and soul.

What to expect during a Reiki Appointment?

Each reiki appointment lasts for an hour and takes place fully clothed, either relaxing on the therapy couch or sitting upright in a chair if you prefer. I will begin the treatment by using grounding and relaxing guided meditations.

My hands will then be guided intuitively and as the healing energy flows through your body, you may feel a pleasant sensation of warmth, some people report seeing colours or images and others simply fall asleep. As we are all unique, each experience will be different but generally after treatment you should feel more at peace and able to cope better with external influences. As with all types of healing, sometimes the symptoms may be heightened or you may experience an emotional release. This is when hidden emotions are brought to the surface to be released and will soon pass; it is a normal part of the healing process as the body clears out what is no longer needed.

Aftercare

After a Reiki treatment it is always advisable to drink plenty of water; as the body starts to cleanse it will eliminate toxins and this will assist the process.

Sometimes, you might feel rejuvenated after a treatment, but if you have gone into a deep relaxation you might feel very sleepy, so it’s important to give yourself time before rushing off. For best results make sure you don’t have a heavy workload afterwards to give your body a chance to carry on healing.
