It’s day one of International Essence Awareness Week, a week where the British Flower and Vibrational Essence Association holds a space for us to raise awareness and share our love of these wonderful gifts co-created with nature.
I have been meaning to write a blog on this subject for ages, so what better time to kick of this week with one!
So, what are flower and vibrational essences? I’m sure many of you will be familiar with Bach’s Rescue Remedy…….that tiny bottle of magic drops, always relied upon to ease all manor of upsets and stressful moments. Well, rescue remedy is a combination of different flower essences, blended together for their properties to help people cope in a crisis.
When explaining what essences actually are, it’s best to start with what they are not! They are often confused with essential oils or herbal tinctures. Essences have no scent, in fact they have no physical properties of the plant at all. Simply put, they hold the energetic messages of the plant or flower from which they were made.
To understand a little more about that, we can look at one of the universal laws of nature – the law of vibration and in the words of Einstein “Everything is Energy!” Everything that we see around ourselves has it’s own energy field with a unique vibration. So, you, me, the chair we are sitting on, the computer we are using, the trees, plants, flowers, every sound, thought and emotion is a bundle of vibrating energy.
Energy is magnetic, so the frequency we vibrate at attracts energies that match it. Therefore, the higher we vibrate, our wellbeing is enhanced and the more we align to abundance, peace and love however a low vibration is going to attract feelings of fear, lack, anxiety and low mood. So, when our energy is in alignment with the life we desire, we feel good, but when we experience life events such as shock, trauma, loss, disappointment, uncertainty and unexpected change, our frequencies can become distorted and this throws us out of balance.
There are many ways to raise our vibration, with nature holding one of the answers; selecting essences from plants that carry the exact frequency to match that which is out of balance in us, we can come back into alignment. Rather like the effect of tuning forks!
This is by no means a new practice, indigenous people intuitively knew that by sipping early morning dew from certain plants made them feel better. But it was in the 1930’s Dr Edward Bach, rediscovered essences and found a way of producing them so they are accessible to all.
Dr Bach’s method of preparation…….freshly cut blooms from a selected flower are suspended on the surface of a bowl of pure water and left for a period of time until the energetic imprint of the plant is infused in the water, then bottle and preserved in alcohol.
When you buy a prepared bottle, it is usually stock so you would need to either dilute in a dosage bottle or simply add a few drops to a glass of water and sip at intervals throughout the day. You may notice a difference immediately but other times it will be more subtle and can take a few weeks. Essences are very safe, they can be taken by anyone, including children, animals and during pregnancy.
Nowadays there are many essence producers, but I usually suggest people start with the Bach set.
These are the producers I recommend:
